Award Recipients at the 2026 AHS Annual Meeting

The Agricultural History Society held its annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia from June 4-6, 2026. At the closing awards ceremony, the following award winners were honored:

• Graduate Student Workshop Paper Award: Matthew Turetsky, “Finding the Local in Global Seed Banks: Andean Agriculture, Indigenous Diaries, and Everyday Acts of Conservation in Peru, 1984–1986”

• Gilbert C. Fite Dissertation Award: Taylor Cozzens, “Andean Laboratories: Agrarian Reform, Agricultural Innovation, and Armed Conflict in Peru, 1950-2005.”

• Everett E. Edwards Award for the best article submitted to Agricultural History by a graduate student: Olivia Paschal, “Chicken Woman: Gender and Labor in the Early Arkansas Poultry Industry”

• Vernon Carstensen Memorial Award for the best article in Agricultural History: Anna Zeide, "'The Dignity of Invention': Race, Intellectual Property, and Peanut Agriculture, 1900-1920,” in vol. 99, no. 2

• Wayne D. Rasmussen Award for the best article on agricultural history not published in Agricultural History: Taylor Cozzens, "Workers in the Field and Lawyers in the Court: Environmental Justice, Poverty Law, and the California Rural Legal Assistance." Pacific Historical Review 94, no. 1

• Henry A. Wallace Award for the best book on agricultural history outside the US: James Lin, In The Global Vanguard: Agrarian Development and the Making of Modern Taiwan

• Theodore Saloutos Memorial Award for the best book on agricultural history in the US: Joshua Nygren, The State of Conservation: Rural America and the Conservation-Industrial Complex since 1920

• James C. Giesen Teaching Excellence Award: Connie Lester

• The Effland-Grim-Reid Award for public engagement in agricultural history: Howell Living History Farm

• Fellows of the Society: Connie Lester, Drew Swanson

• Gladys L. Baker Award for lifetime achievement in the field of agricultural history: Joe Anderson
